Hybrid gas meters
WaterTech’s hybrid gas meters combine quality and accuracy in metering with reliable and innovative electronics. These meters pool the best features of a traditional gas meter with the advanced features of a smart meter. These are tools designed to improve network performance, enabling utilities to measure and monitor gas consumption accurately, efficiently, and safely over time.
HIGH PERFORMANCE AND DURABILITY: WATERTECH’S SOLUTIONS
WaterTech has a solid range of hybrid smart meters in its catalog: from the most popular G4 gas meter for residential users to the G10, G16, and G25, for applications requiring higher flow rates. As hybrid meters, they consist of a measuring unit of the traditional diaphragm type (also called a diaphragm meter) with the addition of an electronic part for storing and transmitting consumption data.
All meters fully comply with the resolutions established by the Regulatory Authority for Energy, Networks and Environment (ARERA) and European standards. Gas networks, partly because of their inherent criticality and danger, are also subject to stringent regulations on meter performance, both in terms of consumption control and the structural features and materials used.
Our gas meters are distinguished by their reliability and durability. Construction features and technological devices that have been recognized, appreciated, and certified by Italgas, which has chosen us in its very short list of suppliers. This very prestigious certification, obtained less than a year after the release of our range of gas smart meters on the market, demonstrates the qualitative excellence of WaterTech’s smart meters.
This is a mind-blowing achievement, made possible precisely by the extraordinary reliability of the meters developed, which are decidedly solid and safe. Modern and robust, our products have excellent functionality, with data communication capability at the highest level and guarantee the highest degree of security to the distributor.
RELIABILITY AND DURABILITY OF WATERTECH METERS
Given its extensive experience in the field of water, where meters often operate in decidedly harsh conditions, WaterTech has developed IP67-certified hybrid gas smart meters. Thus, these are meters that are guaranteed tight even under severe conditions, such as environments in which dust, rain, and humidity are recorded. This covers both the measuring part and the electronic section that collects, stores, and transmits data and information.

Our hybrid meters are distinguished by the care taken in their design, construction, and component choices. We have taken several technical measures to ensure a very high life expectancy and the maintenance of measurement efficiency and accuracy over time. High-quality materials and structural details made to last enable WaterTech gas smart meters to ensure optimal performance throughout their legal lifespan.
An example of the attention to detail placed by WaterTech in the development of its range of gas smart meters is in the meters equipped with the GSM transmission system, where the physical SIM Card is still used (in the new generation NB-IoT meters, the physical SIM has been replaced by the SIM-On-Chip, i.e., a chip that acts as a SIM and is mounted directly on the motherboard). Given the criticality of keeping the SIM well positioned and repaired, a key element of the transmitting functionality, the use of a very high quality SIM holder was opted for, so as to avert the risk of oxidation of the contacts – and thus the loss of connection to the network) – ensuring a longer meter lifetime.
In addition, precautions have been implemented to prevent the SIM vibrating due to the passage of gas and the consequent movement of the membranes, from escaping from the dedicated-SIM holder housing. These and other construction and design elements are intended to ensure superior reliability and robustness of the product, to minimize the risk of failure and malfunction.
As mandated by the ARERA resolution, WaterTech’s smart gas meters are all equipped with dual electronic circuitry and dual power batteries.
COMPATIBILITY WITH ALL COMMUNICATION PROTOCOLS
Gas meters are available with different communication modules that support the most popular transmission technologies for smart metering networks: NB-IoT, 169 MHz, and GSM. A wide choice that WaterTech offers its customers within the network technologies of its products, gas, and water, allows utilities to make wise decisions based on their network development projects.
In this way, it is possible to take advantage of technological convergence in communication protocols in both gas and water smart metering. A synergy that accelerates the process of rationalization and service efficiency in the distribution of the two resources and makes the utilities’ multi-service projects more profitable.
